Russian judoka Valery Endovitsky told how he managed to win a gold medal at the Grand Slam tournament in Baku.
In the decisive fight in the weight category above 100 kg, the Russian showed himself stronger than the Azerbaijani Jamal Gamzatkhanov.
— The final fight. The local public gathered their strength to support their athlete. You must have felt this pressure?
— I heard it as if I was wearing noise-cancelling headphones. No offense to the Azerbaijani public, in Tajikistan they shouted much louder, so much so that one could go deaf.
– Victory throw. Was this reversal prepared in advance? Did you think about her before the fight?
“This is my signature throw, so I just executed it as it happened,” Endovitsky said on the air of the show “Everyone for the match!”.
The Baku Grand Slam stage, a qualifying stage for the 2024 Olympic Games, took place from February 16 to 18.
