The former world boxing champion is very happy that the fight for the interim champion title is set.
Alexander Gvozdyk is pleased that a fight for the title of interim champion against David Benavidez is scheduled. According to the Ukrainian boxer, this fight should take place this summer.
Gvozdyk also said that when he learned about the opportunity to fight, he immediately agreed.
“They said, there’s no smoke without fire. They made an offer, I said yes and now I’m starting. I can’t tell you much, it just started yesterday. I immediately said yes and that’s it. That’s it for now.”
My coach came to me and told me about this match, I thought it was amazing. That’s why I returned to boxing to fight at the highest level.
I want to be champion again and fight for mandatory challenger status – it would be great if it was for all four belts. Very good. I’m guessing this will be a pay-per-view, David is one of the biggest names. There is nothing better for me. As far as I know, the match is June-July.
I don’t understand why the offer was made to me if the intention was to fight Canelo. It’s so pointless, Canelo will fight in May, our fight will be in June-July.
Benavidez is a great boxer and is still popular in the light heavyweight division. It’s not for nothing that they call him Monster Bandera. At super middleweight he’s huge, but even at light heavyweight he’s bigger than me.
It will be a very difficult fight and a very difficult challenge,” Boxing Scene quotes Gvozdyk.
We remind you that Gvozdyk had his last fight in September last year. It was previously known that the WBC sanctioned the fight of the Ukrainian boxer against David Benavidez.
