“It’s a purely sporting challenge.” Umar Salamov wants to fight Evgeniy Tishchenko

Russian Umar Salamov expressed desire to fight with WBA bridgeweight champion and 2016 Olympic champion Yevgeny Tishchenko .

On Saturday in Moscow, Salamov defeated the representative of Kyrgyzstan Dilmurod Satybaldiev by unanimous decision (100-90, 100-90, 98-92) and won the cruiserweight belt of the Eurasian Boxing Parliament (EBP). For Salamov, this fight was the first since September 2022. Previously, the Russian competed in the light heavyweight division and now he is making his debut in the premier heavyweight division. In December 2021, Salamov boxed with Dmitry Bivol.

Tishchenko won the WBA belt in the weight category up to 101.6 kg in Dubai in December.

“I wasn’t expecting an easy ride at all.” I was dealing with a good opponent, very persistent, all his defeats were only on points. He has a very strong head. I expected to have to sweat. It’s this kind of fighting with such a high pace that was very useful to me. It might have been worse if the fight had ended sooner. It’s very good that he covered the whole distance. I think I passed the test with a B plus. In the new weight category, I will be better than in 79 kg. I think it’s my weight and I will definitely become world champion here.

— Do you have any desired rivals in Russia?

— I challenged WBA bridge weight champion Evgeniy Tishchenko. I really want to fight him for his 101.6kg title. I think I’m ready. Evgeny, I have great respect for you, if you are a real champion, then defend your belt in a fight with me. It’s a purely sporting challenge, nothing personal,” reports the correspondent, according to Salamov’s words.
