The fight with the Ukrainian will take place in the light heavyweight category
American David Benavidez will return to super middleweight after a fight with former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk. The father and coach of the undefeated boxer, Jose Benavidez Sr., spoke about this.
“I’m very excited that David will be fighting at 175 pounds. We’ll take a short break and then go back to 168 pounds. We’re just getting bored.”
“I’m pretty sure we’ll be back at super middleweight. David is young, 27 years old, and very dedicated to his work. He’s super disciplined. It doesn’t even bother me. We’re just focused on the next fight, look impressive and see what happens next.”
Let us remind you that WBC Ukraine President Nikolai Kovalchuk recently announced a fight between Gvozdyk and Benavidez. The fight will take place for the WBC interim champion belt, which is owned by the American. According to the Ukrainian boxer, this fight will take place next summer – in June or July.
Gvozdyk knocked out Brazilian boxer Isaac Rodriguez in his last fight. This is Alexander’s third victory after resuming his career. Prior to this, the Ukrainian knocked out Latvian boxer Richards Bolotniks in the 6th round.
Benavidez fought his last fight in November 2023. David defeated Demetrius Andrade, who refused to continue the fight after the sixth round.
