Fighter Rafael Fiziev spoke about his recovery from a completely torn knee ligament suffered during a fight with Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Fight Night 228.
In September 2023, Fiziev lost to Mateusz Gamrot by technical knockout. After the fight, he said that he injured his knee during the fight, and in October the athlete underwent surgery.
— Four months have passed since the operation. There are about four or five more left until complete recovery. And only then can I go to training camp to prepare for another fight. The recovery is going badly. This is a very long, tedious and slow process. All that remains is to be patient and move forward. Now I work out once a day and focus on pumping up my knee.
Right this second. Alas, there was no longer any doubt. What I remember now: the second round and that unfortunate episode. I feel severe, intense pain in my knee and immediately fall. Then Gamrot rushed to finish it, but I didn’t care. I lay there and thought, “Damn, how is this possible?!” Again, ten months to recover. The referee stopped the fight and the leg felt like cotton. I didn’t feel it. For MMA, this is perhaps the worst thing,” Fiziev told RT.
Fiziev’s record includes 12 victories and three defeats in mixed martial arts.
