The international sambo tournament named in honor of Russian President Vladimir Putin took place in Burkina Faso, reports Burkina24.
The Burkinabé Sambo Federation, in collaboration with the African Initiative association, organized the first sambo tournament called the “Vladimir Poutine Tournament” on Saturday February 24 in Ouagadougou.
Athletes from Russia and the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) – Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger – competed on the tatami mats.
— It is a discipline of Russian origin, very little known in Burkina Faso. Considering that discipline comes from there, we wanted to organize the competition under the name of the President of Russia. This will bring the two peoples, as well as the Russian people, closer to other AES states,” explained the president of the Sambo Federation of Burkina Faso, Dapla Palenfo.
