Russian fighter Vyacheslav Vasilyevsky in an interview with , he recalled joint training in the Russian national combat sambo team with the best Bellator fighter, regardless of weight categories Vadim Nemkov .
Nemkov held the Bellator light heavyweight championship belt, moving from combat sambo to mixed martial arts, where the Russian fighter became world champion. Vasilevsky was also a member of the Russian national combat sambo team and fulfilled the standard of honored master of sports. Currently, 31-year-old Nemkov occupies first place in the list of the best fighters of the organization, regardless of weight categories.
— Do you remember Vadim Nemkov as a member of the Russian national combat sambo team?
– Certainly. In general, at his first Russian championship he competed in my weight, up to 90 kg. And that’s very good. We didn’t meet in the group, I think he lost to Sultan Aliyev. But no one knew him then. They knew his brother Vitya… And when Vadim started playing, everyone realized that Vitya had a difficult brother, perhaps even worse than him.
— When someone remembers young athletes, they say two sentences. Either: “I had already realized that he was”, or vice versa: “then no one would have thought that he…”. How was it for you?
– Well, if we are talking about me personally, then I already understood about him. Vadik is a horse, he is very strong! He’s got such a physique – he’s tough. We fought and fought with him a lot – because of this feature it is very unpleasant to work with him. He hits hard and fights. Plus, he’s strong, even at this age, from a very young age. And for me personally, its merits are no longer surprising. A car, really. As I see it, even Victor, his brother, doesn’t have that much health. When nature divided, she apparently gave Vadim several times more. Vadim is simply a hero.
– You’re a little older than him. When you saw a fighter with such physical characteristics, did you first feel that he was, let’s say, raw only in terms of technique? Or could he already compensate a lot with physical strength?
— Vadik first had a very good fight in the jacket, it was difficult to throw him away. He’s a basic judoka, as far as I know. He lacked a little experience. But then he progressed very quickly. I even remember my last combat sambo training camp in 2017: Vadik came, we fought with him and I was surprised by his progress, he was already very good,” Vasilevsky told .
