On this day, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will meet in the ring
Legendary American boxer, and now the head of the promotion company Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya commented on the upcoming fight of the WBC junior welterweight champion Devina Haney with an American boxer Ryan Garcia.
“This will be the fight of the year. We’re excited for Garcia and Haney to meet. At the amateur level, they won three victories each in head-to-head matches. It’s time to find out who’s the best.”
“Haney instantly agreed to this fight. Ryan told me, “Okay, let’s do it.” He just really wanted the fight with Devin. This is what we have. We have united two of the best fighters of our time and on April 20 we will have the biggest event in boxing history.”
As previously reported, the fight will take place on April 20. Haney’s championship belt will be on the line. The boxing evening will take place in Brooklyn, at the Barclays Center.
Haney, in his last fight, convincingly defeated Regis Prograis by unanimous decision to win the WBC junior welterweight belt (140 pounds or 63.5 kg). Devin previously vacated the lightweight belts.
Garcia’s last fight defeated Mexican Oscar Duarte in early December. The American knocked out his opponent in the eighth round.
