“We think Oliveira is better than Makhachev in the standings only because we’ve seen him stand taller than Islam. Actually, it doesn’t matter. There are no black belts in hitting. I understand why Charles has an advantage on his feet, but I want to point out that we didn’t really see Islam at the helm,” Sonnen said.
The fight between Makhachev and Oliveira will take place on October 22 at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The winner of the match will receive the UFC Lightweight Championship, which is currently vacant. Islam Makhachev wins his rivals for 10 fights in a row. Charles Oliveira’s winning streak is 11 fights.
