AJ’s former rival talks about the Brit’s rematch with the Ukrainian world champion
Former World Heavyweight Champion Andy Ruiz shared his expectations from the second fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua. He also said that in the future he would not mind fighting a Ukrainian.
“I think Joshua can beat Usyk. In heavyweight, anything can happen. It only takes one hit to change the course of the fight. I think it comes down to who is more hungry,” Ruiz said.
“Joshua falls but gets up, he loses but then fights again to win. The mustache is also a tough nut to crack. He has such a style that he throws a lot of combinations. When I beat Luis Ortiz on September 4th, and if we can’t get a fight with Wilder, then we can target Usyk.”
In 2019, Ruiz sensationally defeated Joshua by technical knockout, taking away the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles from the British. Anthony won the rematch by unanimous decision.
Ruiz’s next fight will be against Luis Ortiz on September 4 in Los Angeles. For Andy, this fight will be the first in 15 months. Last May, he defeated Chris Arreola via unanimous decision.

The second fight between Usyk and Joshua will take place on August 20 in Saudi Arabia. Last autumn, the Ukrainian defeated the Briton by unanimous decision and became the world heavyweight champion for the first time.
