Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov Said he wouldn’t kill an Irishman Conor McGregor in a UFC fight with a choke, but it certainly would have brought him to the point of losing consciousness.
The fight between Nurmagomedov and McGregor took place in October 2018, Khabib won by choke.
– When you were already strangling McGregor, when there was even more suspicion that he would lose consciousness there, if there had been no judge, would you have let him go?
– No, I won’t let him go. Because this is the moment when you are at your maximum, when your emotional state reaches its peak, the ceiling, you could say. And everything is right. I think him and I both knew what we were going to do, it’s not easy when you pass someone in the street and start strangling them. He is one of the best fighters in the world. Six months in advance, a fight was planned for us, and we go out and find out who is the best.
Of course, it’s not to death. Would I kill him? I think not. I don’t think I would have killed him, but he would have lost consciousness, that’s for sure. If I would have controlled this moment, we will never know. How much I would keep it is a good question. I don’t know,” Nurmagomedov said in an interview with VK Video.
Nurmagomedov announced his retirement in October 2020 after defeating American Justin Gaethje. His professional record is 29-0.
