British functionary Eddie Hearn doesn’t see the point in meeting a Ukrainian and an American in the ring.
Promoter Eddie Hearn was critical of sanctioning the fight between Alexander Gvozdyk and David Benavidez, who will fight for the interim WBC light heavyweight title.
The head of Matchroom Boxing expressed a lack of understanding why this fight was held, and why an American would change weight category to meet a Ukrainian in the ring.
“Benavidez – Gvozdyk? This is the weirdest match I’ve ever seen. Why is this match being made?
Look, Gvozdyk is a very good fighter, but what is Benavidez doing? Is he moving up to light heavyweight? Once David moves up to light heavyweight, he may never come back,” Hearn told FightHype.
Let us remind you that famous coach Teddy Atlas said that Gvozdyk will beat Benavidez.
