The Brit can’t pick a favorite in the upcoming megafight
Legendary former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis commented on the upcoming fight for the undisputed title between the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO versions Alexander Usik.
“Hard to say. I would give preference to Fury, but I think that even now Usyk is an underrated boxer. So it will be interesting to see how Fury counters this.”
Lennox retired from professional sports in 2003. In the last fight, the Briton defeated Vitali Klitschko by technical knockout in the sixth round. In fact, Lewis is the last undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Let us remind you that the unification fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Fury and Usik was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. Lewis was supposed to be the WBC’s guest of honor for the fight in February.
The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
