The former world champion expressed skepticism about the regular loss of form of the “Gypsy King”
Former world champion George Groves analyzed the form of the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in the context of his imminent confrontation with the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO champion Alexander Usik for the undisputed title.
“Perhaps Fury’s legs are a little older, a little stiffer and a little heavier. As the fight with Usyk progresses, this may affect him.”
“People remember his fights with Deontay Wilder, but the same fate could await Fury now. He had a long career, he was at the top and he dealt with that pressure.”
“Of course, all this time he was in and out of shape, which is not ideal. If Fury and Joshua were to fight in the next three months, you can imagine that Fury would have the skills to not miss the blow.”
Let us remind you that the unification fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Fury and Usik was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18.
The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
