Shelestyuk: Strange things happen in boxing if an undefeated boxer with an Olympic medal cannot get a fight for two years

The last time the 2012 Olympics medalist entered the ring was March 12, 2022

Ukrainian welterweight boxer Taras Shelestyuk (19-0-1, 13 KOs) published a post on social media dedicated to his last appearance in the ring, which took place exactly two years ago.

“Two years since the last fight… All this time I have been searching, but there is still no clarity about the next fight.”

“Strange things happen in boxing if a boxer with a record of 19 wins, zero losses and an Olympic medal cannot get a fight,” Taras added.

Shelestyuk is 38 years old and a native of Makeyevka. In 2011 he became world welterweight champion, a year later he won bronze at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Previously, Taras named the opponents with whom he was ready to fight. The Ukrainian’s list included former world champions Keith Thurman, Yordenis Ugas and Mario Barrios.

Shelestyuk also expressed a desire to change the division. In his opinion, moving to the first welterweight division or junior middleweight will benefit his career.

Shelestyuk fought his last fight in March 2022. The WBA eliminator fight between the Ukrainian and Gabriel Maestre from Venezuela ended in a draw.
