WBC President focuses on the strength of the ex-UFC champion’s opponents
The president WBC Mauricio Sulaiman still considers the decision to include the former UFC world champion in the top ten of the official rankings correct Francis Ngannou.
“We 100 percent support the decision to include him in the top 10 based on facts alone. Everyone criticized the WBC, me, the ratings committee. A month later, a fight against Joshua was announced, but no one objected to it.”
“We are talking about a trend, we do not go, manage or make decisions based on popularity. “We are fact-driven, rules-based, and Ngannou’s rating is fully supported by WBC rules, as is clear from the rating criteria by which we review a fighter’s performance in other contact sports.”
“The name Ngannou is so big that it causes controversy. And then Joshua comes and knocks him out in two rounds. Joe Frazier was knocked out in two rounds by George Foreman. Does this make Frazier a bad fighter who should not have become champion after beating Ali?
“Ngannou came close to beating WBC champion Fury, knocked him down, and came close to winning by losing a split decision. “Joshua looked great and that’s why he’s a contender for the top spot in the WBC rankings.”
“I support Francis’ rating. We’re putting together this month’s lists now and we’ll see where the committee puts Ngannou.”
Ngannou lost to Joshua by knockout in the second round. Francis was knocked down several times, and after another blow from Anthony, the referee stopped the fight.
Ngannou suffered his second defeat in boxing. In the first fight, Francis lost by decision to WBC world champion Tyson Fury.
