However, the Ukrainian expects a fight with the Gypsy King for the title of absolute world champion
WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF heavyweight champion Alexander Usik (21-0, 14 KO) commented on the upcoming fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion against the WBC title holder Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs).
“I will definitely fight on May 18th. I’m glad that Tyson quickly recovered from his injury and returned to training. I have to fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion.”
“It doesn’t matter to me who the opponent will be. It so happened that Tyson stands in my way to the title of absolute champion. But if Fury doesn’t want to fight me and decides to give up his belt, I will happily fight for the title with whoever the WBC chooses to challenge.”
Let us remind you that the unification fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Fury and Usik was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. Lewis was supposed to be the WBC’s guest of honor for the fight in February.
The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
