WBC head takes drastic measures
The president WBC Mauricio Sulaiman continues to lobby for the theme of six judges for the upcoming fight by the WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF champion Alexander Usik (21-0, 14 KOs) and WBC title holder Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KO) for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
Suleiman has already appealed to representatives of boxers, promoters, as well as the management of the WBO, WBA and IBF with a request to create a group of six judges who will officiate the fight between Usik and Fury.
“In Saudi Arabia we saw that refereeing remains weak. Possible disputes in the fight between Usik and Fury will kill boxing. Fighting at the highest level deserves this proposal and we should all agree on this.”
Let us remind you that the unification fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Fury and Usik was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18.
The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC previously officially announced its intention to reform the judges for the reporting fight, with the support of the WBO. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
Suleiman reported that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a repeat fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
