IBA urged to ensure the independence of the National Boxing Association of Ukraine
International Boxing Association (IBA) recognized Vladimir Prodivus legitimate President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine and sent a corresponding letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and the FBU.
The IBA also drew the attention of official sports bodies to the inadmissibility of any interference by state bodies in the autonomy of a sports association.
“The IBA expresses its sincere concern about the current situation in Ukrainian boxing. As we were informed, a certain group of people led by Kirill Shevchenko is trying to change the leadership of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU).
With this letter, we inform you that the last FBU elections took place on December 17, 2021. The IBA sent an observer to these elections, who did not reveal any violations in the procedural order of such elections.
Therefore, the IBA recognizes Vladimir Prodivus as the legitimate president of the FBU, who has full support from our side. At the same time, the IBA does not recognize the meeting held on February 22, 2022 by the alternative group as a legitimate meeting of the congress, since this did not comply with the IBA Regulations.
We ask to ensure the independence of the National Boxing Association of Ukraine.
Despite the above, the IBA is open to any dialogue and invites you to discuss any problems that may arise in the national structure of Ukrainian boxing. We believe that any problems can be solved with the help of such a constructive dialogue, ”the IBA official letter says.
Recall that on December 17, 2021, Vladimir Prodivus was re-elected President of the FBU. But 12 regional federations did not recognize the results of the reporting and election conference, stating violations and the absence of a quorum.
On February 22, an extraordinary reporting and election conference of the FBU was held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. Representatives of 17 regional federations elected Kirill Shevchenko as the new president of the FBU.
On June 20, the Boxing Federation of Ukraine sent an open letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, in which it announced the raider seizure of the organization.
In May, Prodivus joined the IBA Board of Directors. Russian Umar Kremlev was re-elected as the President of the International Boxing Association, however, due to a number of violations, new elections of the head of the organization will be held.
