Head of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili told that Russian wrestlers continue to qualify for the Paris Olympics because they need to be prepared for any decision regarding the admission of Russian athletes to the Olympics.
Previously, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice President John Coates suggested that no more than 40 Russian athletes would participate in the 2024 Olympics.
“I am still unsure of my final position regarding our athletes’ journey to the Olympic Games. We are still in the process of selecting and will examine which proposals, moods and stance in general will be accepted. There will be daylight – there will be food. We are qualifying for the Olympics and must be ready for anything,” Mamiashvili told .
Previously, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Paris Olympics, but with a neutral status and only in individual disciplines. During the competition, the anthem, flag and other official symbols of Russia and Belarus will be prohibited at all venues.
On Friday, in response to a request from , the IOC press service said that a decision on the principles of admitting Russian athletes would be made at an executive committee meeting in March.
The Olympic Games in the French capital will be held from July 26 to August 11.
