The boxer will return to Ukraine after the fight with Joshua
Promoter Alexander Krasyuk said that the boxer Oleksandr Usyk did not hesitate before joining the territorial defense. Usyk hopes he doesn’t have to shoot.
“None of us wanted war, but when thieves get into your house, you protect yourself from them. And when the enemies unleashed aggression against us, our sacred duty is to protect our family, relatives and Motherland. Usyk was no exception in this situation. At such moments, it doesn’t matter if you are a world champion or an ordinary person. You have to do something, take a rifle and do your duty,” said the promoter.
“Alexander, without hesitation for a long time, joined the territorial defense and, together with other soldiers, patrolled the territory. And every night before going to bed, he prayed that he would never have to fire that gun. However, we all knew that if necessary, no one would hesitate.”
“Alexander himself mentioned several times that he already missed his homeland. He will return to Ukraine and will again fulfill what we call duty to his country, will motivate his compatriots. I don’t doubt it.”
“I think that if not on the 21st, then on August 22, Usyk will be at home,” Krasyuk said.
On August 20, Usyk will defend the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO championship belts against the background of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which continues for the 150th day.
The second fight between Usyk and Joshua will take place in Saudi Arabia. The fight will be broadcast live on the DAZN streaming platform.
Last fall, Usyk defeated Joshua by unanimous decision to become world heavyweight champion for the first time.
