The Ukrainian should return to the ring in October
Promoter Bob Arum believes that the battle of the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) and an American Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) can really be organized in 2023.
“One fight that should happen next year that everyone will die for is Lomachenko vs. Stevenson. Both guys want this fight,” said the promoter.
“I hope we get Loma back. He will get a vacation in the Ukrainian army, and we will be able to launch his return in October. Our team will select a suitable opponent for this,” Arum said.
Previously, Stevenson said that the fight with Lomachenko could be arranged in early 2023. The American believes that the second featherweight, where Shakur performs, is more suitable for the dimensions of the Ukrainian.
On September 23 in Newark, Stevenson will fight against the Brazilian Robson Conceicao.
In May, Stevenson defeated Oscar Valdez by unanimous decision to unify the super featherweight belts. Shakur inflicted the first defeat of his career on the Mexican.
Lomachenko fought his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision.
Subsequently, Lomachenko could fight George Kambosos, but pulled out against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In July, the Ukrainian announced his readiness to return to the ring. It is expected that Vasily will fight his fight after a long pause in October.
