Boxers from Russia refused to participate in the selection for the 2024 Olympic Games in neutral status

Athletes of the aggressor country do not want to compete without national symbols, because “they cannot betray their homeland”

In selection for Olympic Games 2024 will not participate Russian boxers. They themselves refused to participate as “neutral” athletes, without using national symbols.

As the Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation stated, “boxers will never go to competitions in a neutral status, since they will not be able to betray their homeland.”

Let us recall that after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the International Boxing Association (IBA), led by Russian Umar Kremlev, allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions using national symbols. Due to the actions of the Association, Ukraine, Great Britain, the USA, Poland and a number of other countries refused to participate in the women’s and men’s world championships.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to suspend the IBA from hosting the boxing tournament at the 2024 Olympics. This decision did not affect the participation of Ukrainian boxers in the 2024 Olympic Games, since the selection, instead of the banned organization, is carried out by the IOC itself.

In the summer of 2023, the IOC officially withdrew its recognition of the IBA.

The upcoming Olympics will be without Russians not only in boxing, but also in some other sports. Thus, the aggressor country at the Games in Paris will not be represented in artistic gymnastics, as well as in equestrian competitions.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 755th day.
