According to the plan, Alexander Usik should have two fights with the “Gypsy King” before the end of 2024
Alexander Krasyukpromoter of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Alexandra Usikasaid that the Ukrainian plans to have two fights with the WBC title holder Tyson Fury until the end of 2024. However, the promoter is not sure that they will take place.
“Theoretically, the rematch should take place before the end of 2024. However, we all know that Tyson is not the best “revanchist” in the world. And after he loses to Usik in the first fight, his behavior will be completely impossible to predict.”
“I say this, but I have no guarantee that the first fight will ever happen. Fury has withdrawn four times in a row. We even decided to stop all jokes and criticism towards him in order to maintain his confidence. So, if there is anything else we can do to help Tyson get into the ring with Usyk, we are ready to do it.”
“Usik’s goal is to get a fourth heavyweight belt and win the undisputed title. Once this mission is completed, other options can be considered.”
“One of the reasons why a third fight with Joshua is unlikely is the sequence of mandatory fights. As we all know, the next stop on the carousel will be the IBF, not the WBC. Regardless of who wins, a rematch will be next. Next in line will be the IBF, not the WBC.”
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
