The Ukrainian heavyweight did not refuse a fight with a famous opponent
Ukrainian heavyweight boxer Igor Shevadzutsky (11–1, 9 KO) told why he agreed to fight against Kubrat Pulev (30-3, 14 KO). The Ukrainian will replace WBA Regular champion Manuel Charra (34-4, 20 KOs) in the fight.
“Yes, I will fight with Pulev. This is true. I don’t know [будет ли на кону боя какой-то пояс]. Anything is possible. But the fight is scheduled for 12 rounds. They don’t just set 12 rounds. Perhaps there will be some kind of title at stake,” Shevadzutsky said.
“It’s clear that I’m not at my peak. But when such a chance arises – to share the ring with a good boxer – then, I think, it should not be missed. To be honest, such offers are rare. For example, two weeks ago I was offered a fight with Dillian Whyte. I also agreed. Although there was very little money offered here. This is not the money for which one fights such opponents.”
“I just fought. Two weeks passed. They offered me – I immediately agreed. But I understand that the issue is not about money. The question is in my name. After all, when else will you have the opportunity to share the ring with worthy and good opponents? With big name fighters? I made a decision for myself to grab all the opportunities that come my way. So what to do? Sit? Wait? What to expect? When will you turn 40? If you try, then here and now. This is the path that must be taken. I don’t want to box with, to put it mildly, people who are much lower level. It is better to be strong among the strong than strong among the weak. I’m going to do my job. I’m going to get high.”
The Shevadzutsky-Pulev fight will take place on March 30 in the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia, at the Sofia Arena.
Shevadzutsky had his last fight in February, defeating German representative Edonis Berisha (7–1, 6 KOs). Thus, the Ukrainian was rehabilitated for the defeat by Martin Bakole, which he suffered in April last year.
Pulev defeated Pole Andrzej Wawrzyk by unanimous decision in December 2023.
