Earlier, WBC President Mauricio Suleiman made such a proposal.
The president World Boxing Organization (WBO) Francisco Valcárcel stated that he does not support the initiative to expand the number of judges for the fight between the WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF champion Alexander Usik (21-0, 14 KOs) and WBC title holder Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KO) for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
“This topic was discussed between the sanctioning organizations. I don’t believe that this proposal would help boxing in any way, because the judges must be competent, and three of them are enough. If this proposal is put to a vote, I will not support it,” Valcárcel said.
Earlier, WBC President Mauricio Suleiman appealed to representatives of boxers, promoters, as well as the management of the WBO, WBA and IBF with a request to create a group of six judges who will officiate the fight between Usyk and Fury.
Let us remind you that the unification fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Fury and Usik was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18.
The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC previously officially announced its intention to reform the judges for the reporting fight, with the support of the WBO. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
