The Ukrainian continues to prepare for the second match against the British
WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO World Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) said that the first fight against the British Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) was very difficult for both boxers.
“Many people say that that fight was a cakewalk for me, but it’s not true. It was a tough fight for him and for me. After the fight, I returned to the hotel, took some food and fell asleep sitting up,” Usyk said.
Alexander also said that he could not focus on sports when the full-scale invasion of Russians into Ukraine began. Earlier, the promoter of the Ukrainian Oleksandr Krasyuk said that Usyk did not hesitate before joining the territorial defense.
“All I did was just pray. I did not want to leave Ukraine, but I visited my military friends and visited them in the hospital. They all asked me to take part in this fight, take revenge and fight for the whole of Ukraine. I wanted to send my wife and children out of Ukraine, but she said she would not go.”
On August 20, Usyk will defend the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO championship belts against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which continues for the 152nd day.
The second fight between Usyk and Joshua will take place in the city of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). The fight will be broadcast live on the DAZN streaming platform.
Last fall, Usyk defeated Joshua by unanimous decision to become world heavyweight champion for the first time.
