“Where am I and where is boxing?” Minakov admitted that in the fight with Thompson he did not have enough fight

Former Bellator heavyweight champion Vitaly Minakov admitted that he does not feel comfortable in fights where only striking techniques are required.

On Friday in Moscow, Minakov defeated British former UFC and Bellator fighter Oli Thompson by unanimous decision in a fight under the rules of boxing with MMA gloves. Minakov’s last MMA fight took place in October 2021 and the fighter currently has a deal with Bellator/PFL.

— I really missed (the fight). Reflexively, my legs tensed, straining to fight. My element is that I approach, take him to the ground and finish him off. This is the first time I’ve played exclusively on drums. Well, it’s clear… Where am I and where is boxing. I come from boxing like on the other side of the ocean. “I’m not a boxer,” reports the correspondent.

Minakov has 22 wins and two losses in MMA. Earlier, Thompson knocked out former UFC fighter Alexei Oleynik and lost by knockout to Vyacheslav Datsik.
