The referee stopped the fight in the seventh round
Former two-weight world champion Oscar Valdez (32-2, 24 KO) defeated the Australian Liam Wilson (13-3, 7 KOs) and won the interim WBO super featherweight champion.
The Mexican managed to break his opponent’s nose already in the second round. Liam responded aggressively and exchanged blows. Valdez, having achieved an advantage, began to lure out his opponent and act on counterattacks.
The denouement came in the seventh round. The Australian missed a powerful blow, which was the signal for Oscar. Valdez unleashed a series of punches on his opponent. Wilson resisted, but could not respond, which is why the referee stopped the fight early.
Valdez’s previous fight was a loss to Emmanuel Navarrete in August 2023. Oscar will be looking forward to Navarrete’s fight against Ukrainian Denis Berinchyk, after which the WBO interim champion title has the opportunity to become permanent for Valdez.
