Mendoza: Bogachuk is a dangerous opponent, but I was always ready

The American replaced Sebastian Fundora in the duel with the Ukrainian

American boxer Brian Mendoza (22-3-0, 16 KOs) commented on the upcoming fight with the Ukrainian Sergei Bogachuk (23-1, 23 KOs).

“You know, this is not a fight that you can go into with two weeks’ notice. He is a dangerous opponent. But we were ready. We were in shape, sparring with Tim Tszyu and Eric Priest, who had just fought on the Golden Boy card last week. We just stayed really sharp.”

“I eat healthy and maintain a healthy weight year-round. I’m in shape: we do sprints, all the bag work, everything we need to do. I turned over every stone in training camp because they told me I was on the reserve list. So, we were preparing at full speed.”

“I’m a boxing fan, so many years ago I saw Bogachuk’s fight with Brandon Adams. I always just watch a lot of boxing, so I’ve seen him over the years and I feel like there are a lot of holes in his style that I can take advantage of. I feel like I’ll knock him out before the 12th round.”

Earlier, the boxers held a weigh-in ceremony on the eve of the head-to-head confrontation in Las Vegas. The boxers showed almost equal weight. Bogachuk with an indicator of 69.116 kg turned out to be slightly lighter than the American (69.456 kg).

The fight for the WBC interim junior middleweight title between Bogachuk and Mendoza will take place on the night of March 30-31 in Las Vegas. The fight will be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the promotion company Premier Boxing, starting at 00:00.

Bogachuk was supposed to fight for the full WBC championship belt against Sebastian Fundora. However, the fight fell through, as the American was appointed to replace Keith Thurman in the fight against Tim Tszyu.

The fight between Fundora and Tszyu for the WBO and WBC junior middleweight titles will be the main event of the boxing evening in Las Vegas.

Bogachuk holds the WBC Continental Americas title and is ranked second in the WBC rankings. Mendoza is in 8th position in the ranking.

In his last fight, Bogachuk knocked out Ghanaian Patrick Allotey in the first round. For the Ukrainian, this was the second defense of the WBC Continental Americas title.
