Both Ukrainians could become world lightweight champions this year
Famous Ukrainian promoter Alexander Krasyuk assessed the likelihood of a unification battle between Vasily Lomachenko And Denis Berinchik, if both boxers manage to become world lightweight champions this year.
“I think a unification fight between Berinchyk and Shakur Stevenson would be more realistic than with Lomachenko. I don’t think that the world community is very interested in a fight between two Ukrainians for several titles. Although for us it would be a historical event.
As for Lomachenko, I cannot comment because I do not know his real motives and real plans. A lot still needs to happen, but one thing I can say for sure is that we will root for our team.
And, God willing, the more champions there are in Ukraine, the more often our anthem will be played, our flag will be raised, and the more mentions there will be about our state in the world media. Forward to victory,” Krasyuk said.
Lomachenko will next fight George Kambosos for the vacant IBF lightweight belt. The fight will take place on May 12. The event, which also includes two undercard fights, will take place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, starting at approximately 5 a.m. Kyiv time.
The fight between Berinchyk and Emmanuel Navarrete for the vacant WBO lightweight champion belt will take place on May 18, 2024 in San Diego (USA). It will be hosted by the Pekanga Arena complex. The World Boxing Organization sanctioned this fight at the end of January.
