The fight between Berinchik and Navarrete will take place on May 18, 2024 in San Diego.
Egor Golubtrainer of WBO International lightweight titleholder Denis Berinchik (18-0, 9 KOs) commented on the upcoming fight with the Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete (38-2, 31 KO) for the vacant belt WBO lightweight champion.
“Boxing is generally dangerous. Navarrete is like that. Clumsy. Spiritual. Mexican style of boxing. But we have keys with which we can pick up and open the lock. Mexican style. Goes forward. Presses. Fights. Typical Mexican boxing.”
“He will come to our weight, and we will not come to his. He will come to the weight at which Denis spent his entire professional career. Navarrete boxed at 55 kg, 57 kg, and 59 kg. But 61 kg is not 59 kg.”
“We respect him, but we are not afraid. As they say, the devil is not as scary as he is painted. We are confident. Confident in their abilities. I’m confident in Denis. And confident. I believe that everything will be fine. I believe that the belt will come to Ukraine. After all, Denis deserves it.”
The fight between Berinchik and Navarrete will take place on May 18, 2024 in San Diego (USA). It will be hosted by the Pekanga Arena complex. The World Boxing Organization sanctioned this fight at the end of January.
29-year-old Navarrete finished in a draw with Brazilian Robson Conceicao in November 2023 and retained his WBO super featherweight title. If he defeats Berinchik, the Mexican will become world champion in four different weight categories.
The 35-year-old Ukrainian fought his last fight in August against Swede Anthony Yigit. Berinchyk won by unanimous decision and defended the WBO International title, which he has held since 2018.
