The International Olympic Committee (IOC) welcomes the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to reject the appeal of the International Boxing Association (IBA) against the derecognition of the organization.
On Tuesday, CAS rejected the IBA’s appeal against the IOC session’s decision to withdraw recognition of the organization. In June, the IOC, following a vote, announced the derecognition of the IBA. The association itself described the CAS verdict as biased.
— The IOC welcomes the CAS’s decision to reject the IBA’s appeal. In its final decision, the CAS noted that on the date of the contested decision, the IBA had not complied with the conditions set by the IOC for its recognition.
IBA has not improved its financial transparency and sustainability, notably through revenue diversification. The IBA has not changed its refereeing and judging process to ensure its integrity, including the period of monitoring its own competitions in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The IBA has failed to ensure full and effective implementation of all measures proposed by the management reform group established by the IOC, including culture change, the committee said in a statement published on its official site.
In 2019, the IOC temporarily withdrew the recognition status of the IBA for economic reasons and due to a management crisis within the organization, and also presented demands for reforms. In mid-June, the IBA appealed this decision to the CAS and asked the court to suspend the IOC’s recommendations until the court’s final verdict.
