The United World of Wrestling (UWW) said that the two-time Russian Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulayev is not allowed to participate in a licensed tournament due to his support of SVO and membership of the Dynamo club.
On Thursday it became known that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not allow Sadulayev to participate in the licensed Olympic tournament in Baku. The president of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), Mikhail Mamiashvili, told that the organization would contest the decision.
— Sadulaev was excluded from the Baku qualifying competition after failing to meet the eligibility criteria set by the IOC for individual neutral athletes. He was deemed ineligible by the UWW commission. This third-party commission constantly monitors whether the wrestlers meet the criteria set by the IOC.
The commission discovered new information about Sadulaev’s support for the SVO and the fact that he is still officially included in the list of members of the Dynamo club.
Each neutral athlete undergoes a rigorous UWW selection process for any tournament and is considered based on criteria set by the IOC, which includes extensive background and social media checks on individuals from Russia and Belarus.
The admission decisions were made by the committee based on comprehensive verification reports provided by an independent and private intelligence agency, said a statement published on the official website.
Sadulayev won gold at the Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Games, and the 27-year-old wrestler also has five world championship victories.
The Summer Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
