FSBR Vice President Samurgashev on Sadulayev’s non-admission: “This is complete nonsense, the IOC is discrediting itself”

The first vice-president of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), Varteres Samurgashev, told that he considers the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to allow the two-time Olympic champion to be absurd. Abdulrashida Sadulayev for a licensed tournament.

On Thursday it became known that the IOC did not allow Sadulayev to participate in the licensed Olympic tournament in Baku. FSBR President Mikhail Mamiashvili told that the organization would contest the decision.

– This is total nonsense, the IOC is discrediting itself, there are no longer any Olympic and sporting principles. By all their actions they show that they are committing suicide. Everyone can see that the Paris Olympic Games will take place without transparent selection, that is to say without the strongest athletes. Abdulrashid’s exclusion is a loss for everyone, including those who will participate in these Olympic Games. The inferiority of victory will haunt them throughout their lives.

I express my words of support to Sadulaev, he behaves very honorably in the current situation. Political games do not faze him, he does what he loves, it is worthy of respect. There is no pity for him, quite the contrary, only pride.

—Have you managed to communicate with Abdulrashid?

– No. I imagine how many calls he gets now, everyone wants to say something to him, to support him. He certainly feels the support of people, but there is no need to bother with unnecessary calls, it is useless. Therefore, I support him emotionally,” Samurgashev told .

Sadulayev won gold at the Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Games, and the 27-year-old wrestler also has five world championship victories.

The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
