The Ukrainian should be “explosive” in the ring
Former champion in several weight categories, American Roy Jones commented on the upcoming fight of the WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Alexandra Usika against WBC title holder Tyson Fury for the title of absolute world champion in heavyweight.
“Usyk is a great technician, but he’s not that explosive. If he was explosive, that would be a problem, and when you’re smaller and get closer to the big guys, you need to bring explosiveness to the ring, otherwise they won’t respect you. If he can’t find that explosive before the fight starts, he won’t beat Tyson Fury.”
“Tyson didn’t take Ngannou seriously – and he didn’t look the way he should have looked against Ngannou. He’s still Tyson Fury and he’s definitely going to take Usyk seriously.”
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
