Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation Tatiana Kirienko once again drew attention to the inadmissibility of participating in international competitions without national attributes.
On Monday in Sochi, the composition of the Russian men’s team which will participate in the European Championships, which will take place in Belgrade from April 18 to 28, was announced. Russian boxers, according to the decision of the International Boxing Association (IBA), take part in competitions under the country’s flag.
– It’s a very touching moment. Today we learned the composition of the team that will participate in the European Championships in Belgrade. He will perform with honor and dignity: under the flag of Russia and with the national anthem. We have this opportunity thanks to the International Boxing Association under the leadership of Umar Kremlev. On June 23 last year, our boxers made a statement, and now it is confirmed: we participate in international competitions only under the flag of our country. And we reject any proposal to act under a neutral flag. This is a collegial position.
This year we will have the European and World Championships, the next most important tournament was the Olympic Games and now we will prepare for the Friendship Games. A lot of work. We have to prove to everyone that the Russian team is the best,” Kirienko said, as quoted by the press service of the Russian Boxing Federation.
The composition of the women’s team which will participate in the European Championship will be announced later.
