The young American pays tribute to Usik’s technical training
Undefeated American heavyweight Jared Anderson suggested why the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury can win the upcoming unification fight for the title of absolute world champion over the holder of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO titles Alexander Usik.
“I believe Fury will be ready and sharp one hundred percent. Usyk is not the fastest fighter, so I don’t think he will take advantage of this much. They’re almost the same age, so no one will have a crazy advantage in that regard.”
“Should Fury fight Usyk rather than box? I think we’ll see that. I don’t know. Usik is a very good boxer and technician. Perhaps he will box if Fury goes straight at him. I would say that an angry or charged fighter is not the best option. My advice would be to win this race slowly and steadily, be smart, wear him down rather than just press him, and get the win.”
Last year, Anderson suggested he was the only boxer alongside Fury capable of beating Usyk.
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
