Ricky bets on Fury in a fight against Usik
Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton made his prediction for the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between the holder of the WBC belt Tyson Fury and WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik.
“I still choose Tyson. Perhaps he took his previous fight a little lightly. Ngannou was fighting his first professional fight. I think Fury came into the ring a little heavier than usual. I think he may have underestimated him a little. We’ve all fought, this can happen. But Fury has gotten leaner and is in good shape. I haven’t seen many of his interviews where he shouts to reporters: “I’ll do this and that to this homeless guy.”
“I think he’s gone to training camp and he’s working hard and he’s committed to it because he understands how tough this fight is going to be. I think the fact that he didn’t have the best performance in his last fight will make him better this time. He wants to come back and prove everything to everyone,” Hutton said.
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
