The “Gypsy King” noted that AJ should wait for his chance
WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury commented on the possibility of a fight with the former world champion Anthony Joshua immediately after the fight with the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Alexander Usik.
“The way I look at it is Joshua is an underdog and he needs to wait his turn. Because he had a chance with Usyk, and he lost fair and square. I’m not sure which of all of you cameramen witnessed this fight, I don’t know where you were, maybe you were on vacation. But in fact, he has already lost to Usyk, not once, but twice. So that puts him at the end of the line. You can’t just ignore Usyk.”
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
