“The Gypsy King” is confident of his victory over Alexander Usyk in his own style
WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury commented on the use of Teofimo Lopez’s style in the fight against former champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko for a fight with the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Alexander Usik.
“Lopez did very well, but at heavyweight it’s a little different. The pace is a little different here, the fights are a little different. It was a great win and I predicted it. I was the only one who did it. And now I also predict that I will beat Alexander Usyk. Like I said, if I can’t beat Usyk, then just say I’m a bad fighter.”
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
