“I would like to recommend to my colleagues from other sports to stop being afraid and not to be someone’s colony” – IBA president

President of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev asked his colleagues in other sports to stop being afraid and start asserting their independence.

The European Boxing Championships began on Thursday in Belgrade. Competitions take place in 13 weight categories for men and 12 for women. 401 boxers will perform in the Serbian capital. For victory, each athlete will receive 15 thousand dollars, for second place – 10, and for third – 5. Russian boxers, according to the decision of the International Boxing Association (IBA), participate in the tournament with national symbols.

— The IBA is the only organization that shows its independence and does not participate (in conspiracies) with all kinds of jackals who try to limit and humiliate athletes. Telling people to perform without a flag or anthem is like abandoning their mother. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again now. It is important for an athlete to represent his country, his region and even his backyard, and not to win medals at the Olympic Games. This is what I want to emphasize. As for the European Championship, I wish success to all athletes, may the strongest win. We are an international organization that creates conditions and guarantees honesty and transparency. I would like to recommend this to my colleagues from other sports: don’t be afraid, don’t be someone’s colony. We must defend our independence. For any international organization, the most important things are the coaches and the athletes. Without them, there will be no sport, or any future in general. “Sport calls everyone to discipline, order, peace and kindness,” reports the correspondent, according to the Kremlev’s words.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in December 2023 that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have individual neutral status without a flag, anthem or other national symbol. The IOC also banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
