American boxer Devin Haney has said he wants a rematch against compatriot Ryan Garcia.
On Sunday, Haney suffered a split decision loss to Garcia in the junior welterweight division and was stripped of his World Boxing Council (WBC) title.
“I’m disappointed with my performance, but I showed that I can fight after a knockdown and an injury. I missed the left hook. The first time, I was more surprised than traumatized. I would like to have a rematch. I gave him a chance, and it would be nice if he gave me a chance too. He didn’t make any weight, so I’m still the champion. We can have a rematch,” Haney said according to the Independent.
For Haney, this defeat was the first in 32 fights.
