President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Mauricio Suleiman said American boxer Devin Haney will remain the WBC junior welterweight champion despite his loss to Ryan Garcia.
On Sunday, a fight took place with the participation of Americans Haney (31-0, 15 KO) and Garcia (24-1, 20 KO). The fight lasted all 12 rounds, Garcia won by judges’ decision.
— Congratulations to Devin Haney for showing his class. As in the second fight, “Corrales vs. Castillo,” where the challenger missed weight, Haney remains the WBC champion, Suleiman wrote on social media.
Devin Haney is 25 years old. The American made his debut in the ring in 2015 and in September 2019 fought for the WBC interim lightweight title (up to 61.2 kg), defeating Russian Zaur Abdullaev ahead of schedule, after which he became a champion in his own right.
