President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili told that the organization was analyzing the situation in which two-time Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev was not allowed to participate in the qualifying tournament in Baku.
Sadulayev was not allowed to participate in the Olympic qualifying tournament, which took place April 5-7 in Baku, shortly before the start of the competition. Alikhan Zhabrailov, who replaced Sadulayev, managed to obtain a license in the weight category up to 97 kg, but at the moment it is still unclear whether Sadulayev will be able to be allowed to participate in the Olympics.
— We are dealing with the situation of Adbulrashid Sadulayev. We have sent the documents, there is a certain procedure, so there are no changes yet. Without the strongest wrestlers, we should not attend the Olympic Games. The most deserving should participate,” Mamiashvili told .
Russian wrestlers will be able to compete for the remaining Olympic licenses at the World License Tournament in Istanbul from May 9-12. Currently, they have obtained 12 licenses out of 18 possible: all six in freestyle wrestling, as well as two in Greco-Roman wrestling and four in women’s wrestling. Licenses are not registered.
The Paris Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11.
