The fight for the vacant WBO lightweight belt will take place on May 18 in San Diego.
Promoter Alexander Krasyuk the WBO International champion shared his expectations for the upcoming fight Denis Berinchik with a Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete.
“This is a great event, but I won’t be able to attend. “Unfortunately, this will happen in San Diego on the same day as Usik’s fight with Fury.”
“This is Navarrete’s first fight in the division for a world title. He was made super featherweight champion, so he automatically gets a shot at the vacant lightweight title. Berinchik truly deserved his chance. He had to be very patient to get this opportunity. He is already in the USA, getting ready. On May 18, we will see how good the former Olympic silver medalist is.”
“I think it will be a 12-round fight. I see that there will be a long distance here. Navarrete is strong, he is Mexican, he has no reverse gear. This will be a big night for Ukraine.”
The Berinchyk-Navarrete fight will take place on May 18 in San Diego. It will be hosted by the Pekanga Arena complex. The World Boxing Organization sanctioned this fight at the end of January.
Earlier, K2 Promotions CEO Alexander Krasyuk said that the contract stipulated a rematch between the Ukrainian and the Mexican. Another option of the contract is fights with champions of other associations, including a show with WBC champion Shakur Stevenson.
29-year-old Navarrete finished in a draw with Brazilian Robson Conceicao in November 2023 and retained his WBO super featherweight title. If he defeats Berinchik, the Mexican will become world champion in four different weight categories.
The 35-year-old Ukrainian fought his last fight in August against Swede Anthony Yigit. Berinchyk won by unanimous decision and defended the WBO International title, which he has held since 2018.
