The former world heavyweight boxing champion is still horrified by the crimes of the Russian army
Former World Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Klichko told a British journalist Piers Morgan about his perception of the war in Ukraine.
“First of all, I want to say thank you, Mr. Morgan. You have come here, although not everyone makes such a decision. You must understand that this may be your last trip. You are not safe when you are on Ukrainian soil because of the Russian invasion. Even if they are not here, but in the south and east, where the fighting continues. But just recently, like yesterday, we could hear the sounds of artillery explosions, see death, see destruction, see buildings and houses on fire.”
“Civilians, children, teenagers were tortured, killed. They had been lying on the ground for at least 10 days, it was clear that these bodies had been lying there for a long time. This is something that cannot be accepted in your mind. I have never been to a war. I have never seen so many dead people at once. It just makes you feel like you’re having a bad dream.”
“Current life in the capital now seems normal. And quite recently the city was empty. The city, in which there were 5 million people before the war, suddenly became empty in early March. Empty, no cars, no people, no life.”
“What was near Kyiv, all this is terrible. Your mind can’t really work because of it, because it’s just inhuman. You see cars flattened by tanks, you see flattened bodies in a car. You see people kneeling with their hands tied behind their backs. Teenagers who were shot in the head. You see bodies everywhere between houses, on the streets… everywhere. Also shocking is the destruction that was all over the city.”
Earlier Wladimir Klitschko spoke about options for ending the war in Ukraine.
