Russian UFC fighter Yana Kounitskaya explained his desire to apply for US citizenship in 3.5 years.
Kunitskaya has been living and training in the United States with her Brazilian husband Thiago Santos for several years with a green card, and their daughter was born a US citizen.
“It’s a very embarrassing situation. I don’t want to see it in terms of politics, but people train all their lives and then they can’t compete. I don’t know what I would do in their place. Fortunately , it does not affect the UFC, except that it is difficult for someone to open a visa. I would not condemn those who want to obtain another citizenship because they have been prohibited from performing. You practice your favorite sport since childhood and you are heading towards your goal, but here it is unclear how long this will all go on forever. My decision to take a second citizenship is not related to anything like that. I would still accept it, because we live here, the child already has American citizenship, so we need it,” Kunitskaya told Metaratings.ru.
– We were the first in America with a visa, and this year we received a green card. Thiago and I will only be able to apply for citizenship after 3.5 years. Alice automatically became an American citizen, she has no other nationality, Kunitskaya said.
Kunitskaya, 32, has won 14 mixed martial arts fights and lost six. A fight was declared invalid.
Thiago Santos will face American Jamal Hill on August 6 in the main event of the UFC Las Vegas tournament. In his last fight in March, he lost by unanimous decision to Russian Magomed Ankalaev.
