“In Mexico, we are far from a situation where Russian athletes are poorly treated” – boxer Miroshnichenko

Russian boxer Nikita Miroshnichenko said that in Mexico, Russian athletes were generally treated positively and also cited a distinctive feature of Mexicans.

Miroshnichenko (15-0-1, KO 4) will face Vitaly Petryakov (16-0, KO 11) in Kazan on April 29 in Kazan. At the end of 2020, Miroshnichenko fought with Mexican Saul Alvarez, and since May 2023 he has been training under Chepo Reynoso and Eddie Alvarez, who work with Canelo.

— Describe your camp in Guadalajara.

— I train with Chepo Reynoso and his team at the Julian Magdaleno gymnasium. This gymnasium is twenty years old; Canelo, 13, began training there.

We prepare separately from Saul Alvarez and Eddie Reynoso. They are in the USA, but they come to Guadalajara. Canelo rarely comes, but Eddie comes more often. His parents and family are there. I train directly under the direction of Tshepo and his team. I have only positive feedback on the collaboration. They are kind and friendly people. There are a lot of young boys in the room. We have an 18-year-old guy with a 15-0 record who is also managed by Eddie. There are many talented boxers in our gym.

I have a very good attitude in Guadalajara, I am very grateful to the Reynoso team. All this led to the fact that on April 29 I will box with a good opponent – Vitaly Petryakov. In addition to this meeting, I asked for fights with top 3 boxers in Mexico, they are in the top 20 in the world rankings. I even fought with one of them. After three fights, he was replaced by another. It’s not that I beat this opponent, it’s just that they came in a big group, and everyone wanted to train with everyone else. What I mean is you can box with anyone.

— How are you feeling at training camp? Today, Russian athletes abroad may not be treated in the best way.

– I understand what you mean. But Mexico is far from mistreating Russian athletes. When everyone learns that I am from Russia, they express themselves in a friendly and welcoming manner and always help me. I don’t feel any negativity. Only Mexicans train in the Guadalajara gym. Sometimes Argentines or French people pass through.

— How to characterize Mexicans?

– They are positive all the time – that’s 100%. But there is one characteristic that can be considered both positive and negative: who cares. They have a lot of mañana, which means “tomorrow”… Naturally, no one decides anything tomorrow. They may agree to meet at five in the evening, but arrive around 6:30 p.m., and it will be normal. In general, everyone moves in a relaxed manner, but people are friendly and kind,” Miroshnichenko said in an interview with .
