Russian boxer Yulia Chumgalakova said she was experiencing emotional devastation after winning the gold medal at the European Championships.
On Saturday, Chumgalakova defeated Serbian Kristina Nad Varga by decision in the final of the European Championship in the weight category up to 48 kg. The competition takes place in Belgrade.
— All the rounds are difficult, it’s the final. I knew how to box with her. I understood that she was running forward. It’s my style. Thank goodness everything went well. The opponent runs forward. We had to move, meet, work standing up. I prepared very well for this tournament, I liked the organization. Four fights behind, everything is fine.
— We communicate with you immediately after the victory, but you don’t look incredibly happy.
“I’m already devastated now.” When you have already solved the problem and won the European Championship, you can rest. After the winner is announced, these emotions arise. And so it’s all good, I’m very happy to have won. I don’t always show my emotions. I’m already used to the fact that I fight first. I hope all (our) girls win. And I tried very hard to win so that we could have first place in the overall team standings, ”reports the correspondent of , according to Chumgalakova’s words.
Competitions in Belgrade are held in 13 weight categories for men and 12 for women. The women’s final matches will take place on Saturday; ten Russians will face each other at this stage. The decisive men’s fights will take place on Sunday; nine Russians will box in the final.
